Microdermabrasion is like a fine sanding of the surface of the skin. Think of the fine sandpaper used for the final sanding of a piece of drywall just prior to painting. That is the texture of the crystals that are used during the process of microdermabrasion. The type of crystals used varies by machine, practitioner, or client's request; however, the most commonly used are aluminum oxide crystals. These tiny particles are blown over the skin's surface and vacuumed away simultaneously utilizing a specially designed machine that has a closed loop system. The “sandblasting” helps to remove “old” skin cells to reveal newer, fresher, and healthier looking skin below.
