It would be a very rare occurrence that a single microdermabrasion treatment would have significant results; therefore, a series of microdermabrasion treatments are required. They are usually scheduled 1-2 weeks apart for a period of anywhere from 6 to 16 weeks. The accumulative results can be quite significant. A microdermabrasion treatment usually lasts between 20-30 minutes earning it the nickname of “lunch-time facial”. It does not require anesthesia and while the procedure is certainly felt, it is basically painless. The treated areas of the skin may look slightly pink but there should be no obvious skin wounds, weeping, oozing or blistering. There is very little to no recovery time associated with the microdermabrasion procedure.
