13. Can the effectiveness of microdermabrasion treatment be increased?

The results of microdermabrasion treatments are best when combined with corresponding skin treatment products. Home exfoliation is always used in conjunction with microdermabrasion treatment to expedite the effects. Very often, topical vitamin A products are recommended, such as prescription Retin A, Renova, or a non-prescription retinal, such as Afirm, are used. Treatments with these products are often prescribed two weeks prior to starting the microdermabrasion series, and in some cases, may be continued on a maintenance basis. Other products that might be incorporated include:

  • Kinerase - used to help alleviate fine lines and wrinkles; also inflammatory properties to diminish pinkness & hasten results

  • Vitamin C Products & Copper Peptides such as Neova and Cellex-C - provide antioxidants to the skin; helps to stimulate collagen and elastin formation and distribution within the dermis.

  • Bleaching Agents - if you suffer from hyperpigmentation, these might be prescribed. There are various products available on the market such as, Peter Thomas Roth Potent Skin Lightening Gel Complex or M.D. Forte Skin Bleaching Gel. Available via prescription: Glycquin or Lustra. Utilizing a bleaching agent can also help prevent or diminish potential increased discoloration if deeper microdermabrasion is being perfomed.

  • Keratosis Pilaris - topical treatments, such as M.D. Forte Hand & Body Cream, Vitamin A (Retin A), Lactic Acid are important to use in conjunction with microdermabrasion to increase effectiveness

Certainly, it is important to discuss the proper usage of these products such as when to start/stop usage before and after a microdermabrasion series of treatments.
